Bio

Bali Blue Moon comes from the Kintamani Highlands of central Bali, where small family farms cultivate coffee beneath shade trees on the fertile volcanic slopes of Mount Agung. Coffee production here is closely tied to the traditional Subak Abian farming communities, an agricultural system rooted in the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmony among people, nature and the divine.

The coffee is hand-picked and carefully sorted before undergoing Bali's traditional wet-hulling process, known locally as Giling Basah. Unlike conventional processing, the parchment is removed while the beans still retain considerable moisture. The beans are then dried on raised beds, producing the distinctive bluish color that gives Blue Moon its name and contributing to the coffee's characteristic low acidity, substantial body and earthy-sweet complexity.

Coffee growing in Bali has also been a story of renewal. Following the devastating 1963 eruption of Mount Agung, the island's coffee industry was rebuilt with new plantings and renewed support for smallholder farmers. Today, coffee remains woven into the agricultural and cultural fabric of the highlands, where traditional practices and organic cultivation help preserve both the land and the communities that depend upon it.
