Bio

Finca La Hermosa is the product of a bold change in direction. Max and his wife Claudia had just graduated from law school when they decided to leave the legal profession behind and pursue coffee instead. They purchased an abandoned farm in Acatenango, Guatemala, and began the difficult work of bringing it back to life. In the early days, the young family lived on the property without electricity or running water while raising their two children.

Max is a fifth-generation coffee producer, and that family heritage is evident in the care given to La Hermosa. The neglected land was cleared and replanted, shade trees were established, and a wet mill was built to allow the family to control more of the process themselves. Today, Max and Claudia remain committed to producing coffee with an eye toward both quality and the future, emphasizing ripe cherry selection, responsible farming and a sustainable farm for the next generation.

Their success has brought recognition, including multiple Cup of Excellence awards, but Max's ambitions extend beyond producing exceptional coffee. His larger goal is to build a farm and business that can provide a lasting livelihood for his family while creating opportunities for other Guatemalan coffee producers. Finca La Hermosa is, in many ways, a story about taking a considerable risk, putting down roots and patiently growing something worth passing on.
